Frequently Asked Questions

When do I need to see an Orthopaedic doctor?

You should consult an Orthopaedic doctor if:

  • You feel chronic joint, bone or muscle pain
  • The pain or injury does not subside within 48 hours
  • You experience difficulty carrying out day-to-day activities such as standing or walking
  • Your range of motion becomes limited
  • You experience swelling or bone deformity

Early diagnosis and treatment help provide better outcomes, prevent long term complications like osteoarthritis and improves your quality of life.

Orthopaedic surgeons specialise in the musculoskeletal system and treat conditions related to the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles.

Dr James Wee is dual subspecialty-trained Orthopaedic Surgeon in both Hip & Knee Surgery and Foot & Ankle Surgery.

Generally, indications of serious bone or joint conditions are accompanied by deformity in the affected area, inability to use the joint, intense pain or sudden swelling.

However, even mild bone or joint pain may indicate an emergency condition. It is always best to consult your doctor for a proper diagnosis.

This largely depends on the severity of your condition. If possible, more conservative forms of treatment are prescribed.

There will be instances, however, where surgery is necessary. As an alternative, your orthopaedic specialist may recommend non-surgical techniques with minimally invasive procedures or computer-assisted treatments. These have great outcomes with faster and safer recovery.

An Oxford Partial Knee Replacement is usually recommended for patients who suffer from knee arthritis as an alternative to a Total Knee Replacement.

Choosing the Oxford partial knee replacement confers multiple benefits:

  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Faster recovery time
  • Excellent long-term results
  • More natural feeling knee with better range of movement
  • Lower risk of post-operative complications
  • High patient satisfaction
